The Role Of PE Wax In PVC

PE wax has a very long polar non-polar carbon chain with a very strong polar center. The part of the structure which is compatible with the plastic in polarity acts as an internal lubrication, and the part which is incompatible with the plastic in polarity is externally lubricated and demolded.


An important application of PE wax is in PVC processing. It does not adversely affect melt tension and Vicat softening point compared to fatty acid lubricants and provides excellent anti-blocking and controlled flow. PE wax can be used to control melting in special processing methods. Even if it is added in a large amount, it has good compatibility with other ingredients.


PE wax is the only known lubricant that combines both internal lubrication and external lubrication (release effect) while maintaining high transparency and has little effect on gelation. In addition, the low volatility of PE wax is extremely important for calendering and vacuum degassing.


PE wax has good compatibility with polymer as an internal lubricant. It acts to reduce the cohesive force between polymer molecules inside the polymer, thereby improving the internal friction heat generation and melt flow of the plastic melt.


The role of PE wax as an external lubricant is primarily to improve the friction of the polymer melt with the hot metal surface of the processing equipment. It is less compatible with the polymer and easily migrates out of the melt, so it forms a thin layer of lubrication at the interface between the plastic melt and the metal.
